Following on from our most successful opening day in April, we decided to open on the two weekend days of the 22nd and 23rd June between the hours of 2 to 4pm.
With a different display format, and more material available, visitors gave encouraging feedback.

Recently, 2 members of the BLHG committee visited a like local history group in Walkern, who are currently carrying out archaeological digs in their village, under the auspices of the County Archaeology Officer.
The Barkway Local History Group is intending to embark on a similar project in Barkway, and will be looking for volunteer helpers nearer to the time. Anybody who is interested, should make contact using the "Contact Us" page.

Sunday 7th April - the Barkway local history group held its first open session in the Reading Room. The attendance of over eighty local enthusiasts on a gloomy afternoon exceeded the group’s expectations. Donations to cover costs were gratefully received.
Several tableaux were presented displaying various aspects of village life, and over a hundred photographs formed the backbone of the exhibition.
It could be that some attendees would have liked more time to examine items on display. The history group would consider opening up the Reading Room at a weekend, to satisfy such demand. Any requests should be made via this website.
Much of the displayed material will remain in situ, thus satisfying the group’s aims of having the Reading Room as its permanent headquarters, and becoming a museum of Barkway’s history.
